Federal forces arrested a suspected member of a criminal organization operating in Mexico City and the State of Mexico in the state of Querétaro, related to crimes such as kidnapping, cargo theft, homicides, and drug sales, reported this Thursday the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) of the country, Omar García Harfuch.
In a message on social media, García Harfuch explained that the arrest was made in San Juan del Río, Querétaro, following an arrest warrant for the crime of extortion against Armando “N”, alias “Ajenjo”, who according to security sources is identified as the plaza chief of the Nueva Imperio Cartel in the Azcapotzalco borough, north of Mexico City, under the command of a figure known as ‘General Milton’.
“In addition to the crimes he is charged with, there are accusations against him for purchasing vehicles and properties for the criminal group. This arrest is key to reducing crimes and providing greater security to the population of the Valley of Mexico,” indicated García Harfuch.
The official specified that the arrest involved agents from the SSPC, the Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional (Defense), and the Navy (Semar), from the Attorney General's Office (FGR), and from the National Guard (GN), in coordination with agents from the Attorney Generals of Mexico City and the State of Mexico and police from the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC).
On Wednesday, the Mexican Senate approved the Public Security Strategy 2024-2030, proposed by President Claudia Sheinbaum, which is based on four pillars: addressing the causes, consolidating the National Guard, strengthening intelligence and investigation, and absolute coordination in the Security Cabinet with the federal entities.
Since the beginning of Sheinbaum's presidency on October 1, 2024, Mexican authorities have arrested 18,712 people for high-impact crimes and have seized 144 tons of drugs, including more than 2 million fentanyl pills, according to a recent report by García Harfuch.
